The 2026 National Athletics Championships were held over two days at the Filbert Bayi School grounds in Kibaha, bringing together 218 competitors from 22 regions of Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Mjini Magharibi took the overall title with 19 medals β nine gold, nine silver and one bronze. Dar es Salaam finished second on 14 medals (four gold, four silver, six bronze), with Unguja South third on 13 (four gold, four silver, five bronze).
THE RESPONDENT
This was the second time Pwani has hosted the championships, having previously staged the event at the same venue in 2015. Athletes competed across sprints, middle and long distance, relays, jumps and throws.

The competition was run on OpenTrack, the official results system for the event, covering entries, bib allocation, heats and lane draws, and live results published as each event was completed.
At the closing ceremony, National Sports Council Senior Sports Officer Charles Maguzu urged athletes to measure themselves against international timing benchmarks rather than only against domestic rivals. Filbert Bayi praised the cooperation between government, the federation, sponsors, officials and athletes, and commended Coast Regional Commissioner Abubakar Kunenge for his support.
